our program

Welcome to Rain and Root Preschool;
we are so happy you're here!

At Rain and Root, we believe childhood is meant to be joyful, messy, and full of wonder. That’s why our classroom isn’t made of walls. It’s made of trees, gardens, puddles, and sunshine. Every day your child will climb, dig, sing, create, and explore, growing in confidence and curiosity along the way.

In our cozy, home-based preschool, children feel like part of a big family. They are cared for, celebrated, and encouraged to be exactly who they are.

our roots and values

At Rain and Root, our days are grounded in:

  • Respect for the Child: Every child is capable, curious, and full of ideas worth listening to.

  • Connection to Nature: We splash in puddles, make angels in the snow, watch the seasons change, and learn from the land every single day.

  • Community and Relationships: Families are our partners, and strong, caring connections are at the heart of what we do.

  • Play-Filled Learning: Children learn best when they lead the way through play, exploration, and imagination.

  • Care for the Earth: We model kindness to the planet, helping children grow into caretakers of their world.

LAND ACKNOWLEDGEMENT

Rain and Root Preschool is on Treaty 2 territory, home to the Dakota, Anishinabe, Inninewak, Anisininew, Dene, and Métis peoples. We are thankful for their care of this land and teach children to treat it with the same respect and gratitude.

frequently asked questions

Do you go outside in all weather?
Yes! We believe in the saying, “There’s no bad weather, only bad clothing.” We head out year-round and come inside only when conditions are truly unsafe.

Do you go outside in winter?
Absolutely! Winter is full of magic, building snow forts, watching animal tracks, and seeing the world sparkle. We make sure children are dressed warmly and keep activities fun and safe.

What should my child bring each day?
Warm, weather-ready clothes, sturdy footwear, and a hearty snack for all that adventuring! We’ll send you a packing list, so you feel fully prepared.

How do you support children with different needs?
We celebrate every child’s uniqueness and work closely with families to create a safe, welcoming, and supportive environment for all.

What if my child needs to use the bathroom or shelter from bad weather?
We have access to indoor bathrooms with running water and emergency shelter at the local community centre.
